He enjoys the DMV area where he is active in international culture with numerous communities. Athleticism, spirituality/psychology and nature have shaped how he lives in the world and shares his yoga. He first came to yoga in martial arts, then in theatrical arts and again in traditional rock climbing. His various teachers would use asana and pranayama to ‘fine tune the human instrument.’ Daniel lives his yoga in all things be it cooking, gardening, fitness, taking the bus, writing or breaking bread. 08:56:03 From Yoga Alliance to Hosts and panelists: 3 minutes to Nana and Daniel 08:56:03 From Yoga Alliance to Everyone: He was very fortunate to receive an authentic yoga education from former brahmacharya (ascetics) Amba and Don (Bhramanand) Stapleton. After years of living in an ashram (monastic community), they left to develop their own contemporary mind-body school. This was the Nosara Yoga Institute in Guanacaste, Costa Rica where Daniel worked seasonally. Daniel taught sitting meditation and adaptive yoga for over 15 years in the Military Advanced Training Center at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. There, military patients from all branches of the US armed forces went to his yoga classes. Many were combat veteran amputees, some with TBI, PTSD and/or comorbidities. He worked as a yoga therapist, for US military patients with chronic low back pain, with the Defense and Veterans Center of Integrative Pain Management. He also helped implement a restorative yoga intervention for survivors of breast cancer at the Howard University Hospital/Cancer Center. 08:56:17 From Yoga Alliance to Everyone: Daniel has been involved with several dhamma communities, including the Washington Buddhist Vihara. He has studied with ARISE Sangha (East Bay & Baltimore), Insight Meditation Community of Washington, and Ruth King. To continue to walk his pathway, he finds there is no substitute for the Triple Gem (buddha, dhamma and sangha). Then, in 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a month-long period. Hispanic Heritage Month was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.
